In an 8 x 4 pan, spray the sides with a nonstick spray. Empty the can of fruit pie filling into the bottom of the pan and spread evenly.
Take half of a box of vanilla or yellow cake mix (whichever you chose) and spread it across the top evenly.
Take the butter, cut it in half and take the small pieces and spread evenly around the top of the cake mix.
Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes (check as it bakes to make sure the butter is melting/covering evenly.
*Slow Cooker* If you are making it in a slow cooker, follow the same instructions but put it into the slow cooker. Set it to low and bake for 4 hours. Do not stir while it is cooking.
