Living in North Carolina means our family gets to enjoy the beach and the mountains. One of our favorite fall traditions is apple picking in the North Carolina mountains. For years, I’ve been bringing those apples home and making a variety of recipes. But our favorite recipe is homemade applesauce!

Now that I have a daughter eating a lot of purees, I thought I should pull out that recipe again and make it for her. So enjoy our favorite homemade, no sugar added applesauce recipe.

Homemade Applesauce

We like our applesauce sugar free, but still delicious!

Ingredients

  • 1 Apple (any type you like, but the sweeter ones are my favorite!)
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1/2 tbsp Maple Syrup

Method

  1. Place the water in a pot on the stove and let it come to a boil.
  2. Dice up your apples. I made the recipe in a one apple increment so you can increase if you have more. I typically start with at least 3 or 4 apples.
  3. Once the water is boiling, add in the apples and all other ingredients then stir.
  4. Lower the temperature on the stove and let it simmer for 15 to 20 minutes. Check to make sure your apples mush easily to know it is ready.
  5. Either mash the apples with a fork or potato masher or toss in the blender. I always use the blender.
  6. Let it cool and enjoy!
